The town of Pushkin (formerly Tsarskoye Selo) lies just outside St. Petersburg and has a marvelous ensemble of palaces and parks. It is particularly famous for its impressive baroque Catherine Palace, where Empress Catherine the Great lived and died.
From the 1760s onwards the Winter Palace was the main residence of the Russian Tsars.

The Trinity Bridge is one of St. Petersburg’s most famous bascule bridges, with a gorgeous Art Nouveau design that was in part the work of Gustave Eiffel.
This marvelous Russian-style church was built on the spot where Emperor Alexander II was assassinated in March 1881.
